PASS: Open letter to CATSA on outstanding workplace issues

On August 30th Unifor formally reached out to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) to address the ongoing and unacceptable working conditions faced by our members at Paladin Airport Security Services (PASS).

Since PASS took over the airport security contract at Calgary International Airport in April 2024, our members have endured persistent violations of their most basic workplace rights. These include:

  • Denied or excessively delayed breaks, often stretching for hours
  • Refused washroom access, leaving members in humiliating and unsafe situations
  • Lack of access to drinking water, impacting the health and wellbeing of our members

Despite continuous efforts by your union – by filing formal grievances and having repeated discussions – the employer has refused to correct these problems.

With the submission of this open letter to CATSA, the employer has requested to meet with Unifor representatives on the afternoon of Thursday, September 4th. More information will follow once this meeting concludes.

Please know that Unifor will continue to press CATSA and PASS until these fundamental workplace rights are respected.

In Solidarity,
