Here are a couple of pressing issues we are aware of in relation to the working conditions on the floor and are actively addressing. We have an open group policy grievance on the break situation, the limited access to water, and all the benefits and RRSP discrepancies. We are constantly petitioning the employer to install more fans at the checkpoints and constantly informing management when there are water shortages at the checkpoints.
All the group policy grievances are at step 3 level. It is an arduous process, but we are escalating and addressing each one in hopes of resolving some of these major concerns. I know it feels like not a lot of change has happened and that is beyond infuriating, but please know, that we hear you, we know how bad the working conditions on the floor are and I promise we are actively working to try and improve everything.
One of the positive outcomes that has happened recently was that we were successful in having the Federal days reset! After our previous employer was unable to provide any accurate data, concerning our remaining sick and personal days, and having no way to prove the discrepancies in balances due to losing access to their records we filed a Step 3 policy grievance to have the days reset. After providing substantial evidence of the discrepancies, the employer had to concede and reset the days.
We want to thank everyone that participated in July’s Unifor Stampede BBQ. It was a great success, and we look forward to future upcoming events that will be communicated about here on this site.
